We traveled down the side of the mountain with Efreet but we had to go without Gilroy because of his exhaustion. Dazen went in the front with Arius’ staff so he could communicate with the salamanders. Dazen was able to arrange to talk to the leader.
While Dazen was gone, Arius and I went inside but we could hear movement. Jaden also went in but he went through the stone and found a hidden tunnel. Within the tunnel was a dead person in robes and not much else.
Dazen successfully negotiated with the salamanders for access to the summoning room. While there, Jaden went back into the tunnel to get the magical items off of the dead body. They were bracers of protection, a headband of alchemical intelligence, a ring of electrical protection and robes designed with magical pockets. The robe had a spellbook called the Tome of Lurin which Dazen finds useful.
Unfortunately, when Dazen looked inside the book he was paralyzed by a magical trap. Arius and Jaden tried several times to dispel the effect but it wouldn’t take. Arius then studied the runes in the room and was able to find a way to undo the binding on the giant.
Jaden and I drag Dazen outside and Efreet carried him the rest of the way up the side of the mountain. Gilroy summoned his creature and gave Dazen the ability to move for a while.
Jaden then found the runes that Arius described and used magic to remove them from the stone, unbinding the giant.
We then went back down the side of the mountain again. On the way, the giant was hit by lots of lightning but never hurt. Inside the mountain, we told the salamanders we were going to take care of the hydra and they let us pass.
The air in the hydra’s chamber was hot and toxic but the giant was able to make it breathable. There was a rift leading to a magical place of fire and falling into the rift was the device we knew to destroy.
Arius used the device as a weapon against the hydra, breaking it and freeing Efreet. We fought well and destroyed the hydra.
While Arius gained Efreet as a summon, he’s bound to stay in this place or the rift will get worse again. So we left him there and brought the hydra carcasse to sell. On the way out, we told the salamanders the situation and the leader, Lord Tezalick, agrees to stay there and not cause trouble.
At the top of the mountain again, we destroyed the spire. We also collected the bits of smokestone around it.
Alderizon found he is also bound to this place to control the storm and violet energy. He diminished the storm so it wouldn’t look as threatening. Jaden allowed me to wear the headband and ring until which point we divide up things to sell or redistribute.
Alderizon also gave me the ability to fly. He said the spirits of air make it happen. I asked him what he would like in return, and he said he wants to know more about his people, the court of air, and what is going on in the world.
The last thing we did there was pull out the thin wires of alanite. Then we used the teleporter to go back to the blacksmith.
Keller was dressed nicely which was odd. She and Arius had a mental chat and we found out that people were having a party in our honor, or having the last hurrah before their world ended. They cheered for us. I was better able to enjoy myself once Dazen cleaned off the hydra guts.
