6th 28th – 6th 29th (11/23/2013)
The storm came suddenly, as they always do. However, the lightning is brutal but came nowhere near me. This gave me the opportunity to fly about and put out the fires it was starting. This allowed some people to get cover and safe. Almost everyone is trying help out, though Arius stood in a field absorbing lightning strikes for a short time. There were some casualties, but remarkably not as many as one would expect. There were strikes in the mountain range as well and it seems to be causing some rock slides, but none should harm the village. One strike opened a crack in the tallest peak and now it’s emitting a very unnatural glow. It is so far away. I also heard the grumble of some creature from that direction. I suspect this disaster woke something up.
Coming back to the town, we gathered back at the inn to try to collect ourselves. We decided to pay a visit to the blacksmith to try to get some information about the mountain. There is probably some ancient lost site up there, and if her smithing area is connected somehow, we need to figure it out.
Her assistant was at the smith and alive, but it seemed she had gone home.
We went to her house and found her there. She indicated that she got a sense that the storm was coming and took cover. A very useful intuition. She had told us before that part of her house had some very old structure to it in the basement. Upon further investigation and some communicating with the spirits, we concluded there is some ancient forge on the mountain and that something was once in her basement a long time ago. Maybe it needs to be brought back, I am uncertain. However, the mountain is a volcano, and is going to erupt soon. We are unable to travel today. My companions are low on power.
The next day, we struggled with how to get there. It seemed horseback would be optimal, but the others insisted there was a teleportation point in the blacksmith. So we went there once again, and Vindral and I triggered the ancient runes, which took the smith and her apprentice by surprise. Attempting to read them was difficult for the others because parts of the stone had been used for construction of the inn. At the end, I spoke with the spirits once more, and they indicated that if we went there on foot, we would surely perish. The teleporter needed to be activated.
After a few attempts, Arius was able to activate it, and we were sent to the top of the mountain, where a great battle was taking place it seemed between a giant of some sort and a demonic looking red creature. At first, we were unsure who to side with, if either at all. The giant exclaimed that the red creature was unnatural and invading, so we took that as an indicator and joined in the fight. The creature attempted to flee, but we managed to knock it unconscious. The giant explained how he had been fighting this creature for over a day and it kept coming back to life. Looking down the mountain, the glowing fissure was down a short distance. It must be coming from there. Hopefully we can fix whatever is going to cause this eruption.
