The trials of the fey forest are complete. After we made our way to the caravan, things finally cooled down for a bit. Though we learned some disconcerting things about our friend Arius, we are still stalwart in our resolve to fix some of the ills this world suffers from.
Jaden has gained a skill for putting magic into ordinary things. He spent some of our traveling time crafting me a necklace entirely out of animal parts. When he was finished, he used a gem and some of his magic power to put protective magic into it. As long as I’m wearing it, my skin is more like the hide of a beast.
It was about 12 days before we arrived at Vawuea. It’s a small village in a swampy area between Allieua and Saring. The people there are superstitious and we will have to be careful how some of our group acts. As usual, my sword doesn’t do much to betray its power, but the rest of the group is quite conspicuous.
Vawuea was founded and is run by a single family, the Vorks. The current head of that family essentially owns the whole town. They harvest gems from the surrounding swamp, which can sometimes be dangerous, and the trade here depends heavily on the Terring family. There are stirges and giant frogs in the area
We had to bargain our way into staying in the town itself rather than finding dry land within the swamp. Unfortunately, before we slept we ended up in a bar fight with the lord’s son. I do hope that will not come back to bite us.
I dreamt last night that my mom got sick. The dream then continued with me waking up and going home where I found her dead. But then I really woke up. We later found out this place gives you nightmares.
The strange lady that was at the entrance of the town and said she was expecting us is named Acela. We went to see her first thing before going to check on the route out of town, which was reportedly blocked. Acela’s hut was in a very swampy area that was hard to get to. But we made it there fine and got our fortunes read. In my fortune, I saw myself fighting a massive beast shooting lightning at me and smacking me down a hillside. While the blow hurt a lot, I get up using the sword and fly at the beast.
We also found out Arius’s staff is called the People’s Overlord. Sometimes it seems ignorance is better, but we will have to use this knowledge to guide our future decisions rather than be discouraged by it.
Acela said we would travel east, but most of us were uncomfortable with the notion that the words of a witch would guide our decisions. So we continued north to check on the bridge. While journeying, we killed some giant frogs, one of which had eaten a hawk. We rescue it and what followed was quite odd. Jaden himself turned into a hawk.
