I awoke feeling rested, but still injured. The note was gone and in it’s placed was a small pouched tied to a tree with one of the white ribbons Gwyn sometimes wears in her hair. Within were blueberries, but when I ate them I felt very full and my wounds felt better. I ate enough to feed Than and some of my wounds were completely healed. There is more to Gwyn than meets the eye, but I’ve always felt she was special and worth protecting. As it turns out, I’m the one that needed protecting this time.
As I entered town I could smell smoke. The smell was too strong to simply be the branch, but it is still burning.
My mom wasn’t with everybody else at the church. I found Dazen who admitted to me that he felt significantly better but would feign injury. Magic of some sort? He said his mother is ok, his sister was never hurt, but his father was swept out to sea. At the time, I couldn’t imagine what it would be like to lose a parent.
One of the girls working there brought us to a private room where they were keeping my mother. She was having fits and was being treated for a fever. Dazen sang a nice song while I talked to her which helped her sleep. This is the last time I would see her alive.
Outside the church, I filled Dazen in on the situation. Then we went back to the guards to ask if they know where Arius, Jadenhar, or Dazen’s sister are, but they didn’t know. We decided to leave the dragonman for later and nobody was in the triangle so we we went to the Terring manor to Find Dazen’s sister.
On the way to the manor, we found Arius, under arrest by the Sheriff, with guards and Yllasys holding Arius’s staff. I told Arius in Old Pryma that he shouldn’t use his powers until we can help him.
Once we got to Arius’s cell, we found Master Kerlen. His arm was broken and he said he had to swim back to town and I don’t doubt the truth of his tales. He is a stronger man than me.
Arius was allowed to use the staff to communicate and talked about what we could do but ultimately we had to leave him there and Yllasys was entrusted with the staff. Dazen and I went south to the Southern Peninsula and found Jadenhar coming from the beach area. It seems he used our newfound power to swim across. We filled him in about the situation and Scark’s death and he asks to be lead to the body.
It wasn’t long before we found it again. Scark had been stabbed many times and has some smoke bomb residue. The kobold was burned, likely hit by one of the sky rocks. Dealing with the bodies was a job for the Keeper so we sought him out in the church. The leader found us and said he wanted to join us. He said we could investigate but not leave town.
Jadenhar and I tracked the creatures. Four were carrying something, one led the group, two trailed in back, and one followed from farther back. We followed their tracks until they crossed a main road and waited for the leader there. When he found us, he told us we could seek out the dragonmen if we wished and I asked if we could have permission to use Arius.
Not long after he left, Yllasys approached us with the staff. She gave it to use and said we have permission to use Arius, so we went to fetch him. The Master didn’t seem to trust that we had permission, but allowed us to take him on our word.
When we get away from the people there, Arius had some of my berries so his wounds could heal. Then we followed the dragonmen trail out of town. The hope was that we could find the Speaker, not just get vengeance for Scark. The Speaker went missing just before the disaster and the dragonmen were the most likely culprits.
While on the trail, Arius used his rainbow power to see if the Dazen’s book is magical and he said it definitely is. I’m starting to understand a bit more about how this all works, but it’s still very confusing.
This is when unfortunately we weren’t paying attention to our surroundings and a damaged tree limb fell on us. I let Dazen have a berry as he was wounded again.
Several hours into the journey, we found the dragonmen camp. We tried to sneak in but they heard us. We began the battle with thrown weapons, followed by me charging in and killing one of them. But then the leader breathed acid and I couldn’t stand any longer.
I awoke to see Dazen, my trusted companion of the day. He found out how to use his book and the power within him. They say he used blasts of starfire to kill the dragonmen and that he healed me with a touch, similar to Fweri.
We were too late to save the Speaker. So we brought his body back and left it with the Keeper. We also were able to bring back the lead dragonman. Arius could understand him and with the staff any of us could talk to him. I didn’t trust him though. He did not mean well for us. He even tried to breath acid on the Sheriff but thankfully Dazen pushed her out of the way.
Then we went to see my mom. And she had already passed. I won’t lie. It was the worst feeling I’ve ever had. I’ve always wondered what it would have been like to know my dad, but that’s not sadness. Not real sadness. I could see that sadness on my mom’s face any time she talked about him, but I didn’t feel it. Now I know what that look means and what it felt like for her. The sense of loss is immense, unspeakable.
Back at the jail, Jadenhar said something about meditating. I don’t remember the details. Dazen arranged for me to have a room at the Terring manor. They took good care of me.
4th 1st, 3241 (again)
This is the first time I’ve ever had to write a journal entry again. In fact, I had to write in the details of the past two entries again. I may have missed some things or gotten information wrong due to fading memories. But I suspect the account is accurate. I don’t want to forget the ordeal of the past two days, even if we did get a chance to do better.
After Dazen left me at the Terring manor, he returned to the Triangle. He broke the stone, releasing the water spirit within. She wasn’t lying. She granted him a wish. He worded it in a strange but clever way. Dazen, Jadenhar, and I awoke…or appeared in the room full of mystic power, just after we received our gifts. Arius would fall into the stone, releasing Seesha. In theory, Seesha could then stop the impending tsunamis.
Dazen was also told to remember a phrase: “Allieua amer”. We found ourselves on the old stage in the woods behind my house. We had a second chance, but still had work to do.
